@ Chennai (Day 1)
it's 12.20am in Chennai,
it's also 2.50am in Singapore.
I touched down Chennai 2 hrs ago.
Had a very good indian national gentleman who transfer me from the airport to Traders Hotel Chennai By Shangri-La.
My first impression: the airport was old and somewhat lousy.
The people: Educated pple seems to hold more respect here, and they are not afraid to scold anybody.
Reason: I was queuing up to go thru the x-ray scanner upon arrival, one indian walk past me and immediately placed his bags thru the scanner, migod, he jumped queue!!! Anyway, the indian in front of me, said "hey, wat are u doing? u take us as fools??" wow, stunned. my first culture shock. haha, do we scold pple like dat in singapore?
not that i encountered before.
i think singaporeans will either tell him "hey, there's a queue behind." or stare at him, shake his head and let him go.
haha~
when i walk out of the arrival hall...
indians, indians, and still indians.
there were no chinese, no ang mors.
i can see only a sea of indians.
they were everywhere,
standing near the railings arms to arms.
sitting by the roadside,
sitting at the carpark
migod, wat is the population of chennai???
to move on, i found my hotel transfer gentleman quite easily.
and we proceed to the carpark.
haha~
here comes the interesting part,
we were trying to cross the road. but NONE of the vehicles would allow us to cross at all!
even when we tried to walk slowly across the road, the vehicle will still take a curvy route and drive past us. migod, it was dangerous.
now it makes sense why the indians at serangoon behave this way on the road. haha~
along the way to the hotel. it was almost pitched dark, if not for the few miserable street lamps.
traffic was heavy, drivers were reckless, and everyone was sounding their horn....
wtf???
are they using the horn to greet the others on the road??
oh yes, another interesting scene i saw on my way to the hotel, u remember we saw emails circulating, that shows indians taking a ride on lorries, and everyone was standing almost everywhere on and in the vehicle?
well, apparently, i think it is happening here!
i saw many cars and lorries packed with indians. wow.....
allow me to mention the hotel now.
of all my business trips, i think this hotel gotto be the champion hotel. even better then the Stamford plaza hotel in Brisbane.
Reasons:
1) new hotel, opened on april 27 2005
2) the staff knows who i am the moment i got down from the car.
3) the manager bring me up to my room and stayed to introduce every facilities in the room
4) there were 2 apples (red and green) on my table
5) there are 57 channels on the tv
6) channel news asia is one of them!!
7) best of all, i have FREE broadband access in the room now!! yes! thruout my stay! now that is worth a celebration! haha
Channel News Asia!
