Team Building at Pulau Ubin

Monday, March 26, 2007

We had A 2D1N stay at Pulau Ubin last Thursday....
ubin
The proposed itenary was to kayak in mangrove swamp, and to ascend a 25m(7th storey high) pyramid.

want to die meh?
company employing office workers or employing stuntmen???

anyway, while we were out kayaking in the open sea,
there were many flashlights in the sky.
heavy rain with thunder. a storm rather.
we witnessed the lightning striked a tree log which was floating in the sea and then there was smoke!!!
but the instructor did not signal us to turn back. #$%^&*()_
how dangerous....
we had 8 kayaks that capsized during the storm. 1 team member vomitted and had a cramped leg...
to help u with a clearer picture, the rain was so heavy that i couldn't open my eyes when i sweep my paddle! u can imagine i dono which direction to go....the current was jus too strong for us to manuover....
luckily me and my partner didnt capsized....
we did not finish the entire course though, becos there was not enuf time.
look, when we conquer the storm to reach the river(swamp) mouth, 2 more kayaks capsized...the rescue took up time, and it was alrd 5pm. if we carry on into the swamp area, it will be darkness soon....and u can tell there will be no lights inside the swamp.
so.....the instructor decided to turn back......
arghhhhhhhhhhhhh....
it was 4hrs exposed in the open sea, under the bloody storm, with lightning that we can't hide from.....

the next day, our team had to conquer a 25m team challenge pyramid...
height phobia is not an excuse....
the TCP
that was how it looked like from my room....
take a closer look....that was how high the obstacles are from the ground.
closer
we were the 1st group to attempt the pyramid...
and this was the 1st challenge.
walk on wire.
for a moment, i felt like we were from ren ci hospital doing a charity show, the only difference is, we have no charity hotline lo.....
1
it is not easy....
when 1 person tremble...the wire will shake.....

this is the 2nd challenge....
holding the stationary rope, we have to again walk on wire.
really not easy...
i kid u not, i was cursing and swearing when im up there.... haha...
2
the 3rd challenge is this jacob's ladder.
we have no support except to hold on to each other.
walk. u tremble i tremble. u fall i fall.
how exciting. yah.
3
wall climbing, this becomes my weakest among all the challenges.
im short. my limbs are short. ok?
how to stretch to reach to the faraway support???
I was stucked there for abt 5mins to figure which rock i shld step on to get across. not to climb up u noe. it is to climb horizontally.
and if u forgot how high this thing is above ground, pls scroll up to see the overall picture again.
my partner next to me is a bloody tall man. haha. no kick for him la.
4
then comes the much awaited 'Leap of faith'.
actually, we were suppose to leap across, but we rely on the support of our team members, and stretched our feet across instead. safer mah. imagine there was no gigantic blow-up balloon or cushion underneathe us ok! an again it was like 6th floor above ground alrd!

5
the last climb to the summit.
this was easy for me....a matter of locking my arms....phew....
6
and how do we come down from the peak?
7
fly down lo....imagine jumping floor from 7th storey....
hai....why is life so difficult for me? heh heh....
i think i was telling the guy up there 'can dun jump or not?'
and he said, 'can, then u go down the way u come up....'
yah, right. 'i jump lo'
fox
ok la, the flying fox is quite shiok la.

we took 3hrs to finish the entire course!
my team leader slipped and fell while doing wall climbing, dangerous. so that makes it 1 injury.

allow me to give thanks to my pair of gloves.
without them, i will lose confidence with sweaty palms.
thanks to my boss who advised me to bring them along.

u asked me if i will do it again?
im not sure.
really, its a challenge of faith, confident and height.
tiring....

Our 5th Year

Saturday, March 24, 2007

five years ago, livngstone and i decided to take a walk together,
and we walked back to commonwealth from bugis junction.
(give us a round of applause, will u?)
On the same day, we decided to walk together even longer.
that was five years ago.

We neva fail to celebrate this day.
it is Our day.
We us to go out to restaurants for a good dinner.
but this time, its totally different.
We are planning a celebration dinner, at our love nest.
food doesn't really matter that much tonite. :)
so, I decided on KFC. long time no have. :)

When i opened the door back at home,
I was greeted with big lily-look-alike flowers, rite on our dining table.
*satisfaction sigh+satisfaction smile*
have it not tat we have our own hse, this will not come true right before my eyes. :)

It was also a long time since i last expected a surprise from him.
flower
packaged with a card. lovely.

it was our tradition to give each other this series of cards. we like. it jus melts our hearts when we rx them across the countries, while livingstone was still in UK back then.
card
indeed, this is a very special card.

no signs of happy aninversary, or whatsoever.
'thank you' the card says.
nah, not that i will share with u what is written inside.
but it was indeed very touching and 101% significant. :)
kfc
do we still think the food is impt?

haha...we'll decide :)

Times has changed.
Before, the kids (Me and my sisters) will look at the Executive Chef (My Mom) while she cuts and cook the stuff.

bee hoon
not bad for a start.
my sista say its kind of like broken into small pieces, would be better if the bee hoon is still long.
yah, guess i stirred too much.
will keep that in mind.

then i decided to make rojak soup.
haha...
livingstone and i love soup on meals.
so i threw in whatever i have in the fridge. hee...

Meow came over with Gavin.
it was a short session, but i guessed we talk alot.
It was the 1st time i was introduced to Gavin. :)
Very friendly.
Very vocal.
I guess i like pple like dat. the rest are their individual character.
But being vocal means they can talk, and times are not boring with pple like them, or us, cos im one of the talkative pple too. hahaha....

crackers
and this girl,
i guessed she finds it awkward to come up empty handed. and so, she went to buy me crackers.
haha....
thanks! these are nice crackers! i like like. :)
And it is good luck for their flat application!!! :)

We always passed by this kopitiam at hougang, and we see a long queue.
We always say, maybe we shld come and try the food one day.
We always say.....
but we didnt do. HAHAHAHA...
someone must have heard us.
We were coincidentally being brought there by Felin the other day.
She raved abt the vegetarian food there.
and we decided to go there together that nite. :)
Lucky we went.
The food is indeed very yummilicious. :)
rice

soup
the vegetarian food there is not boring!
they even served mee-hoon-kuey.
and seriously, the food doesn't taste like vegetarian at all.
it taste like real meat. haha...

A sunday on our own.

U see, usually, we spend our sundays with my family.
but today, we didnt.
ryan boy was sick. so we have the sunday to ourselves.
its good.....once in a while. :)

so we decided to head for mustafa !!!
haha...
not the best place to go on a sunday night actually.
but really, i feel like im in a foreign land when we were there.
very crowded. with indians.
I took a turn around us, and realise we were the only chinese on the street, well, minus away the chinese in the stores working.
there were no other colors except for ...... black.....the indian color.
No play colors.
mustafa
but i have to say that mustafa is an excellent place.
u get anything, everything there, right there in the mall!
ya, its amazing.
they even have their own supermarket! selling their own indian stuff. that u can't find in normal NTUC.
i have been to mustafa before, but this time i discover more. :)

Family Nite at Coris

Every six months, i have to bring my dad for a checkup.
its been so many years,...... :)
anyway, i see it as a quality time i can have with him once in a while.
Just the two of us. :)

we picked up my sister after her yoga, and we went for dim sum.
noble
poor ryan boy is sick again.....
my dad is busy teaching him how to obtain warmth when he is cold. haha....
'u hold the cup of tea...come come....'
haha...
ryan

We had a date with my in-laws and family for a steamboat session at our house in the evening.
steamboat
u noe....sometimes, it doesn't necessary need to be big fish, big prawn, or sharks fin.

it could be jus chicken rice bought back from the kopitiam,
but what it matters is everybody coming together at a time, to have dinner together,
to drink tea or coffee together, and to chat about something together.
this is what i call quality time. :)

and rem the tiramisu we make last evening.
it is time to unveil the wrapper.
Unfortunately.....the cake turns too soggy, and it is bcos we soaked the ladies fingers too long in the coffee liquor mixture.

tira
see the wet state.
wet
well....its our 1st attempt,

hee....so it gives us at least a chance to be excused. haha....
never give up!
we'll make it another day! :)

beckie .... so cute....
yahooo
it was the end of the dinner and dessert time.
the best way to wrap up the evening, is a group shot of cos. :)

1st Attempt of Tiramisu

Ever since we moved in, we have said we wanna make tiramisu cake.
we have bought the ingredients, but we haven't had the time to do so.
hmmmm...
anyway, it is D-Day that we decided to make D-Cake together. :)
1st
livingstone and i split the task.
He takes care of soaking the ladies fingers in the espresso and baileys mixture.
and i takes care of the rest.
i love the texture of the cream we made!
1st attempt
almost done!

the last layer was up. and we sprinkle coco powder on top....
attempt
into the fridge it goes,

for at least 6 hrs. overnight.
so, we have no idea how it taste, except to try the coffee liquor mixture....hee...
