Team Building at Pulau Ubin
We had A 2D1N stay at Pulau Ubin last Thursday....
The proposed itenary was to kayak in mangrove swamp, and to ascend a 25m(7th storey high) pyramid.
want to die meh?
company employing office workers or employing stuntmen???
anyway, while we were out kayaking in the open sea,
there were many flashlights in the sky.
heavy rain with thunder. a storm rather.
we witnessed the lightning striked a tree log which was floating in the sea and then there was smoke!!!
but the instructor did not signal us to turn back. #$%^&*()_
how dangerous....
we had 8 kayaks that capsized during the storm. 1 team member vomitted and had a cramped leg...
to help u with a clearer picture, the rain was so heavy that i couldn't open my eyes when i sweep my paddle! u can imagine i dono which direction to go....the current was jus too strong for us to manuover....
luckily me and my partner didnt capsized....
we did not finish the entire course though, becos there was not enuf time.
look, when we conquer the storm to reach the river(swamp) mouth, 2 more kayaks capsized...the rescue took up time, and it was alrd 5pm. if we carry on into the swamp area, it will be darkness soon....and u can tell there will be no lights inside the swamp.
so.....the instructor decided to turn back......
arghhhhhhhhhhhhh....
it was 4hrs exposed in the open sea, under the bloody storm, with lightning that we can't hide from.....
the next day, our team had to conquer a 25m team challenge pyramid...
height phobia is not an excuse....
that was how it looked like from my room....
take a closer look....that was how high the obstacles are from the ground.
we were the 1st group to attempt the pyramid...
and this was the 1st challenge.
walk on wire.
for a moment, i felt like we were from ren ci hospital doing a charity show, the only difference is, we have no charity hotline lo.....
it is not easy....
when 1 person tremble...the wire will shake.....
this is the 2nd challenge....
holding the stationary rope, we have to again walk on wire.
really not easy...
i kid u not, i was cursing and swearing when im up there.... haha...
the 3rd challenge is this jacob's ladder.
we have no support except to hold on to each other.
walk. u tremble i tremble. u fall i fall.
how exciting. yah.
wall climbing, this becomes my weakest among all the challenges.
im short. my limbs are short. ok?
how to stretch to reach to the faraway support???
I was stucked there for abt 5mins to figure which rock i shld step on to get across. not to climb up u noe. it is to climb horizontally.
and if u forgot how high this thing is above ground, pls scroll up to see the overall picture again.
my partner next to me is a bloody tall man. haha. no kick for him la.
then comes the much awaited 'Leap of faith'.
actually, we were suppose to leap across, but we rely on the support of our team members, and stretched our feet across instead. safer mah. imagine there was no gigantic blow-up balloon or cushion underneathe us ok! an again it was like 6th floor above ground alrd!
the last climb to the summit.
this was easy for me....a matter of locking my arms....phew....
and how do we come down from the peak?
fly down lo....imagine jumping floor from 7th storey....
hai....why is life so difficult for me? heh heh....
i think i was telling the guy up there 'can dun jump or not?'
and he said, 'can, then u go down the way u come up....'
yah, right. 'i jump lo'
ok la, the flying fox is quite shiok la.
we took 3hrs to finish the entire course!
my team leader slipped and fell while doing wall climbing, dangerous. so that makes it 1 injury.
allow me to give thanks to my pair of gloves.
without them, i will lose confidence with sweaty palms.
thanks to my boss who advised me to bring them along.
u asked me if i will do it again?
im not sure.
really, its a challenge of faith, confident and height.
tiring....
