A rare day in town

Monday, May 19, 2008

I am usually allergic to town on weekends, u noe la. the crowd really puts me off.

But we have a concert to attend at Esplanade that nite, so we decided to head to town earlier to look at some baby stuff.

Dinner was at Kenny Rogers at marina square....

Somehow i missed the old kenny rogers at century square..... the flavour and taste of the sides are different now.

We ordered 2 mains, so we have 4 sides:

garden pasta,

potato salad,

and the worst macaroni and cheese i ever tasted. The most unforgettable wan is still at 2am Desert bar.

The roasted chicken thigh.

proceeded to esplanade for the concert, and i kept assuming that the concert will start at 8pm. haha....lucky we reached earlier, and realised the ticket printed 7.30pm. hee

Amazing nite of entertainment. There were songs as old as from the 80s, and singers like eric moo and guan de hui, liang wen fu, jack neo, hong shao xuan, etc....

And the concert ended at 11.45pm.

Fabulous concert. =)

Chen Lei's Concert

Wednesday, January 02, 2008

'huh!!! Chen Lei's concert!????'
was that your reaction when u first see this entry? :)

There is nothing wrong with your eyes, or your monitor, yesh, I went to Chen Lei's concert, with my mom. :)

Many pple think that hokkien songs are low class songs. I beg to differ.

in fact, having grew up with hokkien music in the hse and in the car, which my parents love, I had developed a special affection with them.
Hokkien songs are very simple, in their lyrics i meant. the music can be quite elaborate though, as in, some are quite loud.
Chen Lei has a gd vocal, if you have seriously appreciated his works.
and the lyrics are so simple that it truly reflects what we desire (but kia-see), example:
如果不要 想太多,我们的生活会更自在。..
每天嫌车不够好,嫌房子不够大,
嫌菜煮了不好吃,
嫌老婆不好看,
驶到好车帕人偷,
大房子难打扫,
吃得太好帕血压高,
漂亮老婆跟人走。。。。。。。欢喜就好!
(I have translate it to mandarin)

the concert was held at the Esplanade, he didnt spend much money on the staging effect, or powerful sound system or band. He is a humble man who thanked his fans again and again on stage, saying 'thank you for spending so much money to see me perform here, chen lei is grateful....'
His dancers which he brought are quite elaborate on costume though, and he only had to concentrate on his part - singing.
the crowd are mostly elderly, i didnt see some1 like my age in my vicinity.

no 'encore' when the concert ended.

It was a different culture altogether for me, comparing the other concerts i went to...
no regrets. :)
