HK Day 1
It was a last min trip. 1 wk ago, my in laws suddenly ask if we wanna go with them, so for once, with them, we went for a DIY trip (cos they usually only go for packaged tour...)
Deciding for a hotel was quite a stressful task, cos my MIL is pretty particular abt the cleanlines and the quality of the stay, we were also being pre-warned by siblings to choose a gd one....
Anyway, we went for YMCA International House (as usual for a HK stay), crossed our fingers, and hope she will be ok with the accomodation.
(Well, thank god it worked out for her!! She sings praises of the hotel! phew!!)
We took Cathay Pacific, and by the time we reach HK, took our own transfer to the hotel, we were pretty hungry....we went on the streets to hunt for food... hee...
wat else? curry fishballs, cuttlefish and tarts are our must have!
My FIL gave us a few agendas to complete during this trip:
1) visit lantau island
2) visit wong tai sin temple
3) buy sheridian bedsheets
4) meet his friend
So, we met up with his friend on this few nites for dinner. Indeed an eye-opener (and also opened our appetite), the friend brought us to a local eatery which is packed with locals and comes with good food!
cheese lobster, with yee-noodles underneathe. The combination is unique, but it comes in a too big plate, we couldn't finish it!! This is the signature dish, every table has a serving of it.
we came here for the seafood, so this is another bamboo thingy, not too sure what is the name though. Very springy....
listen to this name, this is mantis prawn. ya, i kid u not, its a huge kind of prawn. the texture is very different from our usual prawn..... Not my type.
and how can we forget roast pigeon? yummy....
OK, Mr friend say we have to try this, he ordered this especially for us, south african abalone, sliced, steamed.
comes with the shell too.
the texture is also very springy, not the usual type we always had. Still, not my type, but it was a nice try. =)
It was a long day, with a morning flight, and social entertaining, we sent the folks back to the hotel to rest, and we were out in the streets of Mongkok for our own time. =)
Very amazed with the traffic of pple wandering in the streets even at 11.30pm. Dun they have to rest for the next day?? haha....
I love the idea that they closed the streets and reserved it for pedestrains at nite. It gave them freedom to do anything on the street, as u liked it. =) posters, banners, booths, all setup along the street for promotions and awareness....
close to 12mn, we need to rest ya? our bb also need to rest isn't it? =) Decided to have 许留山before heading back to the hotel.
Livingstone pretending to be tired and boring.... so cute...
and i was thrilled to be finally able to put my teeth into a Krispy Kreme donut!!!!!!wahrious!! finally!!!
Livingstone had a serving of mango dessert. their signature. nice la.
and I obediently have my birdnest with rock sugar and hashima (and gingko nuts). For just $10, dun expect mint quality of ingredients lo. But it was a comforting hot dessert for me after a long day.
Honestly, although I am 5 mths pregnant on this trip, I dun feel the wee bit tired when i was on the street. The only time I gently screamed, was when my spine touched the bed back in the rm, with my body totally flattened-I can feel my spine tired and my legs and feet tight. I had difficulty turning my body on the bed, and bb starts to move and kick in my tummy. =)
I was so afraid that the pain will last me for the next few days, considering it was only our first day!
But, thank god!! the pain subsided when i woke up for my toilet break at abt 4am. Hmmm...blessed... =)
