A day in Bratislava, Solvakia (Little Big City)

Today, we will be spending a day in Bratislava. Its pretty convenient, as the train departs from Vienna to Bratislava every hour at 14Euro per person (return trip). And the ride merely took us an hour.

This is our Hotel Kugal, the 100 years old hotel in Vienna....

Had our breakfast in the hotel. Lonely Planet introduces this hotel with friendly staff. I am all hands and feets up to agree with it! They are indeed very FRIENDLY. even the boss! who sits at the reception to help the guests! totally humble!

Our breakfast comes with tea/coffee, free flow of bread/jam/goose liver/slices of cheese/ham/butter,,,,,yummy....

On our way!

Bratislava Castle - The castle dominates over the city of Bratislava on a hill overlooking the river Danube. Today the castle serves the Slovak Parliament and houses collections of the Slovak National Museum, exhibitions of Treasures from the ancient past, as well as the Museum of History.

The view from the castle....

another side.....im getting all hype up abt the view... haha....

Ascending down from the castle....going towards the old town....

Michael's Gate - The only preserved gate of the medieval city fortifications. Its Gothic foundations were laid in the 1st half of the 14th century. During 1511 - 1513 it was heightened, and during 1753 – 1758 it was rebuilt into its present appearance when a statue of St. Michael was placed on the top of the 51-metre high tower. At present, the Museum of Weapons and City Fortifications is located within the tower. A very nice view of the old city is provided from the tower

Saw this interesting picture on one of the wall, they either hate mcdonald or mickey mouse.... haha

then, there is this little dog that is so obedient.....caught my attention. =)

The town is pretty compact, and as Bratislava looked to shed the greyness of the Communist era many buildings were repainted. In an attempt to enliven the city centre, a few quirky statues were installed. Their popularity with tourists led to new statues, filling the centre of Bratislava with funny and quirky installations. So there we go, started finding all the statues....hee...

1) Napoleon's army soldier - A statue leaning over a bench on Main Square (Hlavne namestie) in the centre of Bratislava. This soldier reminds visitors of Napoleon himself wearing a typical hat (Napoleon the 1st visited Bratislava in 1805, then in 1809 Napoleon's army blew up the Devin Castle near Bratislava).

2) Cumil (The watcher) - This guy, residing in the Old Town, dates back only to 1997, but Bratislavians and tourists love him. Children like to abuse him by sitting on his head. Heated discussions have taken place as to what actually the man is up to - you'll have to decide whether he is simply resting, looking up women's skirts, or just cleaned the sewer...

As Cumil has almost lost his head twice because of the incaution drivers, he has even got his own traffic sign - Man at Work.

3) Paparazzi - a life-size photographer peeping hidden round the corner of Laurinska street, right at the entrance of the famous Paparazzi fine-dining restaurant.

4) Bratislava Cubit - Measuring tool (0.777m), a thin iron rod with notches, which served purchasers on the market for checking that they had not been duped by market traders.

5) Plate with engraving - On the facade of the Old Town Hall, depicting the height of the water in the town during the catastrophic flood in feb 1850.

6) Man in Black - Painted on the facade of the Old Town Hall by the gothic bay. According to legend it is an illustration left by the devil of a devious councillor who wished to defraud a widow out of her property.

Back in Vienna, we visited the Karlskirch. Magnificent and beautiful, especially when the building's lights are turned on. This baroque masterpiece is one of Vienna's most impressive churches, with its beautiful carved columns and vast green dome.

Pardon me, its rather rare that I will crave for any asian food when im in europe. But I guess the weather tempted me to order myself a bowl of hot soupy noodles.

So, there we were, in a chinese restaurant opp the Karlskirch.

and the cheapest drink? Bottle of Frucade (0.35l) for 2.5euro. Like fanta orange lor.

Livingstone had seafood curry ramen (9.80euro). YUM YUM!!!

and I had chicken soup noodle (8.80euro).... haha....

Its a sin.... haha.....
