This is my first attempt in making homemade pasta sauce.Anw, for the past few years, cooking pasta equates to bottled-and-ready-to-eat-sauces...=)Coincidentally, EVERYDAY FOOD showed a recipe of Tortellini in Mushroom Sauce, and boi...me was craving for the best tortellini WE EVER HAD - in a small restaurant in Budapest, owned by a Roman...and while shopping in carrefour the other nite, i spotted tortellini (3 cheese) in a pack...why not now then?I modified the recipe to add some bacon and used portebella instead of shitake mushroom. Used grated mozarella instead of parmesan.

Its our last day in Budapest. Off the beaten track, we went to the Statue Park.(Take tram 19 at Dobrentei ter to etele ter, then change to the only bus to the Statue Park. Enquire at the ticket office if unsure)On our way, saw this stall that attracted me, i wonder what happens if someone walks past and takes with them somthing without paying? Will the shopkeeper know? will she have time to dash out and catch him/her? notice the small opening in front good enuf just for her face.
Arrived at the Statue Park (a.k.a Momento Park) - This Park generally kept the remains of communist in Dictatorship. The entrance fee is 1500ft per adult, and is valid for a free movie and exhibition. Does not include guided tour. Open from 10am until sunset.

On the other side of the Park, there is a tribune or the postament of the Stalin Statue conjured up in accordance with the ratio of its original size, with the boots on top of it. Only the Boots!

We were famished by the time we left te ulu Statue Park (but it was worth the visit!), had to find food, and fortunately, nearby the bus stop, we spotted this little italian restaurant, run by italians from Rome, awesome dishes!1) Funghi pizzz
2) Stewed mushroom
3) Tortellini, got to be the best we had ever tasted so far!!! awesom!!

This is an interesting memorial, created by Gyula Pauer and Can Togay, found on the bank of the Danube in Budapest. It is located on the Pest side of the Danube Promenade at the end of Szechenyi Street, about 300 m south of the Hungarian Parliament and near the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
Shoes on the Danube is a memorial to the people who fell victim to the Arrow Cross militiamen in Budapest and depicts their shoes left behind on the bank when they fell into the river after having been shot during WWII.
 It should be a solemn visit, pardon me.

After the sight-seeing and shopping, we decided to GO BACK to the Hungarian restaurant AGAIN! Reason: It is too good, that we had to have another round of it before we leave the place. The finished bowl of Hungarian Goulash:
The waiters were so friendly that they offered to take a pic for us, and before we left, he kissed my hand, and wished us a safe journey back. Very heart-warming.

This is hotel Charles. Not a luxurious hotel like I mentioned. But its good enuf for us. =)
Made out way to see The Szabadság Szobor or Liberty Statue (a.k.a Freedom Statue). It was first erected in 1947 in remembrance of the Soviet liberation of Hungary from Nazi forces during WWII. Its location upon Gellert Hill makes it a prominent feature of Budapest's cityscape.
The existing 14 meter tall bronze statue stands atop a 26 meter pedestal and holds a palm branch. Several smaller statues are also present around the base, but the original monument consisted of several more that have since been removed from the site and relocated to Statue Park. The statue is very prominent when we are strolling along the Danube River.

As we descend from the hill, there is another monument which u can't see directly face to face, unless you want to fall down lo.... hee... This saint was actually thrown down the valley due to some reasons that we didnt find out.....hur hur hur...

time to take our lunch, italian this time. Livingstone enjoying his daily dosage of kopi (huf 280),

We ordered only 1 pizza to share, and the chef cuts it up for us (even without us telling him to do so, haha....) ....quite clever lo. Pizza hawaii (huf 1680).

We are catching the Carmen opera in the Opera House tonite!!! Had booked the ticket via the internet mths ago!! So we had to catch dinner first. Simple dinner at the foodcourt of Westend City Centre:Pasta Fungi (huf 590)

Back to the Opera House. Many pple dressed up for the play, waiting outside the building for their partners to arrive.
Our online ticket. Very Very cheap.....i think we merely paid abt SGD$4 per ticket... hahaAnd when we purchased the tickets, there wasn't much seats to select....this is actually a blocked view as stated on the web....seriously we didnt noe wat to expect. haha...

Not bad at all la, most of the time we had to stand (although there were seats for us). We couldn't understand the language at all, but the pple dancing and singing on the stage really entertained us the entire nite! And we were not the only wan standing, those pple who got the blocked view tickets all stood with us, haha....It is actually seats in a balcony and only 2 pple are allowed to stand in every balcony i guessed.Labels: budapest, carmen, europe, opera
