homemade style....

Thursday, August 27, 2009

many times, for a chg of homemade cusine, i watched the cooking shows to get inspiration, recipe books too....
one of my all-time fav (as i had mentioned before,) have to be 'everydayfood'.
It intro me to many ingredients and herbs, i otherwise would not have the courage to use.
this, is something i wanted to try for a while, but kept forgetting to put the buttermilk into my shopping basket everytime i go NTUC xtra....

something refreshing for me, bcos i seldom deep fry food in my kitchen, and this NO-FUSS recipe provided me with a crisp (tat is similar to deep-fried crisp) and yet i dun need to clean up my kitchen, or stained my lips with oil! hur hur...

however, i dislike that the chicken tasted blend....looks like i need to modify the recipe to asian taste... heh heh...

and this, is another breakthru for me and my kitchen!
haha....u see, i seldom deep fry, or pan-fry...
so, one day, i decided to make this..it took me alot of preparation before the fish goes into the pan! im not kidding. :)
something like, armed my kitchen stove area with newspaper (i play safe, so dun worry), n on my service yard floor, so that they dun get too oily...blar blar...
well, i think the prep pays off....cos i get minimal cleaning up to do... =)
me love my fish... =)
(so humble-less...haha)

M1-sians Gathering!

Monday, April 13, 2009

we planned a few times after i delivered bbTara.
It was either not available, or feeling unwell. haha...
so, that nite, we FINALLY get to meet up at our place. =)
I prepared pizzas, one hawaiian and one bbq chicken, but! How could I spread so little bbq sauce!??? I say my bbq pizza is an utter failure, and it was tasteless!
How embarrassing....my apologies dear M1-sians! next time, i'll make up with something else. I promise.

we had salad as side, romaine lettuce with cherry tomatoes and ham, and with home made dressing that i really like.

beverage was red wine and for me, the non-alcoholic, Root Beer Float. =)

here are the ladies who was pretty obsessed witb bbTara.

and thank God, bbTara was comfortable with them!

now, who's who?

heh heh....

So appreciate that they agreed to do the getherng at my place, instead of town,

I could rest bbTara well, and so there was no disruption to her bedtime,
after which, I can return to the dinner table to continue our chit chat session. And livingstone was there to help!
Can u imagine, we indeed chatted like no tml, until ms chay said she had to leave for her sister's place, who were waiting to open the door for her. The clock read 11.30pm then.

To pamper my guest, I made my virgin chocolate cheesecake (use to make too many oreo cheesecake la).

I heart the quality gathering that nite, and thanks so much for the lovely gift for bbTara, she is playing the tunes over and over again every day now! =)

Brazil Chicken

Saturday, March 21, 2009

I was planning for dinner that day, and was playing back curtis stone's show from my DVD recorder (boi, that recorder has became my recipe database!).
Seconds later, I decided, this is gonna be it.
Brazilian Chicken.

Simple and no fuss, what I did was to sling bbTara and went to the NTUC downstairs to get some onion, green pepper and yellow pepper. Do u wanna noe how easy?
Brazilian Chcken
Ingredients:
Chicken thigh / Drum (whatever u prefer, i used both)
1 green pepper, and 1 yellow pepper
1 big yellow onion
1/2 bottle of white wine

method:
- pan fry chicken parts till half-cooked, and leave it aside
- then, stir fry the onions in olive oil until soft.
- add green and yellow pepper
- put chicken parts back into the pan on top of the vege
- add 1/2 bottle of white wine into the pan
- simmer for 15-20mins, cover pan with lid

Viola, chicken, the brazilian way. =)
How easy!

It was good, we had it with rice. Livingstone, who doesnt' eat the capsicums, finished his share of it that nite.

Try it. it's too easy to reject it =)

DIY Pancakes

Monday, March 09, 2009

I like mac's hotcakes. But I often couldn't finish them all. Maybe I got sick of the same maple syrup.
And I have been watching alot of nigella's nowadays. And she taught the making of blueberry syrup for pancakes!
It got me all excited! haha...
So, that day, I decided to make it for ryan boi.

Warning, the syrup can cause serious staining.... haha...

and the recipe is soooo easy, that I shld share it with all of u!

Blueberry Syrup Ingredients:
125ml of maple syrup
200g of blueberries
Method:
Bring the ingredients together and cook until boil.
(Yesh, its that easy!)

And if u need the recipe for the DIY pancakes mixture:
600g of plain flour
50g of baking powder
2 tsp of bio-carb
1 tsp of salt
50g of castor sugar

Then, all the above dry ingredients should go into a big jar with air-tight lid. Toss the jar so all the ingredients can mixed together. And bcos its dry, u can keep the mixture and make lotsa times! No need to buy from supermarket anymore. heh heh...

Now, to prepare for abt 15pancakes, scoop 1 cup of pancake mixture from the jar,
add 1 egg and 250ml of milk to the pancake mixture,
whisk them together to form a batter.
Finally melt 15g of butter and pour it into the batter.
You are now ready to make the pancakes using a flat frying pan. No need for oil.
Heat 1 min on 1 side, and half a min on the other side.
Make any shapes of pancakes u fancy!!

have fun!!

Ryan boi was asking for pancakes on his way home at nite....
I can't wait to share this with bbTara!

my childhood delicacies

Tuesday, March 03, 2009

Me, like any other pple, have my own childhood delicacies.
Being very blessed, both my parents are good cooks.
My dad, used to make 年糕for us, the deep fried method.
And, coincidentally, livingstone mentioned that he too shares the same taste when he was young.
So, we asked for the 年糕from my in laws place after the praying session, and its on our own now.....
...maybe, this could well be bbTara's childhood delicacy too.... =)

the batter....plain flour and egg....

the yummy end product.

the taste brought me back to my stirling rd days immediately...i left some for my sista who was also at my place that day...wonder if she felt the same.

And, my mom decided that since bbTara is still an infant, we shouldn't be travelling to settle our dinner, or to squeeze among the crowded restaurants, SO, she decided that she will cook for us EVERY SATURDAY, at my place. we are extra blessed. =)
that day, it was mommy's curry on the menu.

this was actually the leftover, which became our breakfast the next day. yum!

Monday, September 29, 2008

He seldom cook in our kitchen (for all i rem, only once - maggie mee). Though he used to make his own meals in UK in those days, but not anymore.
That nite, before we fell asleep, he told me, 'tml i make breakfast for u'....
haha....I was over the moon!
finally, i got to eat something real from him! =)
As promised, he woke up early and started the preparation. He was going to make french toast (his dad's way). yum yum...

so, he mixed magarine with egg for the batter. And I added on tomatos. heh heh...

And I must say his skills are pretty good!!! not chao tar at all!! =)

Along with my fresh milk, this was my heartiest breakfast.... =)

DIY breakfast

Friday, September 26, 2008

Ever since I am pregnant with bbTara, breakfast has always been important to me.
Not that I used to skip breakfast, but it wasn't as crucial. I guess it is so now, becos I have to eat my vitamins and supplements on time now....
That Sunday, livingstone was sooooooooooo sweet! He woke up early with me (not his usual sunday routine) and offered to go ntuc with me to buy the stuff for our DIY breakfast.... heh heh...

so, we had french toast, sausage and baked beans....

And ..... DIY strawberry milk. =)

we didnt add any sugar, so it actually tasted quite raw (for livingstone).
So, I added some honey for him. =)

And....we have a visitor while we were having our brekkie... haha....

bbIssac!! He is our cute neighbour. ya, just next door. Our door is always open for him. =)

Rest & Relak Nite @ Coris

Tuesday, August 26, 2008

We always have potluck, so today we decided to change the style, and we cater for food instead!
chose eatz catering, basically bcos they cater for mini courses, of cos it doesn't come with food warmer, jus the food in microwavable containers. Gd for up to 14 pple...
We selected the Thai menu, and becos I noe pple will be asking wat is this dish, and wat is that dish, I decided to do up a standing menu for the nite. Now, that's a solution. =)

As usual, we will have late comers, so I prepared cheese fries and nacho chips for the early birds.

here comes the main course:

kailan with mushroom

mango fish

tamarind chicken

mango salad

thai pineapple rice with seafood....alas! i forgot to snap the tom yam soup!!! - all this for $150 + $25 transport fee. No gst.

it doesnt feels like a home-party without some homemade stuff.

So, i presented my humble almond longan.

and felin presented her home-made chng teng. Very yummy!

Peggy contributed the brownie bought at singtel cafe, while i got the ice-cream for her. yummy combi!

we had special guest that nite - adoh and steven, who really seldom join us for gathering.

that's the two preggies to be due end of the year, we are just 1 mth different to be exact!

And the group foto taken in the rock room. Another successful gathering! =)
The nite ended at 2am, with survivors chatting and watching tv in our hall. After they left, we couldn't get to sleep.....livngstone and i chatted till 4am! and we had to wake up the next morning for work.....arghhhh.....so much for an active brain....

Stay home Nite on National Day

Monday, August 11, 2008

It was a wonderful time to stay at home this day.
We didnt expect to see the airshow by the black knights, so clearly on our sky.
it was exciting to see them 'drawing' the heart shape on the drawing board.
The sky is their limit! Can they 'write' - "Will you marry me??" haha...

more acrobat from the black knights....

Livingstone spotted the rainbow halfway thru the show, must I repeat it was a wonderful day? heh heh... (=

and I made dinner, pork chop with mushroom sauce, with roasted potatoes and greens.
yum yum.....
*marking on my calendar* - ' a holiday well spent....'

A finale: fireworks seen from our windows....i couldn't ask for more, could i?
